Below are the most common questions we get about search engine optimization. Feel free to contact us if you have a question that is not listed.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the art of getting a web site to the top of search engines. And yes, it is partially art. I tell people that SEO is not brain surgery, but it is rocket science. Brain surgeons will have an idea of what they are going to do, but they don't know exactly what's going on until they actually get in there and start poking around.
With rocket science, however, all we need to do is step 1 before step 2, before step 3, etc., you will have a working rocket. You just need to know what the steps are before you start.
SEO is like that. The initial phase is creative, but once the proper keywords are figured out it's just a matter of doing the right steps in the right order.
That is a four-word question in which 4,000 words may not properly answer it. Search engine optimization is not difficult, but it is convoluted. Think of it like putting a puzzle together, but the puzzle is a movie that's playing while you put it together. And, at the same time, you have four people behind you telling you how they would put it together. But they all have a different way of doing it.
That being said, search engine optimization is a way of coding a web site so search engines can find it and understand it. Proper search engine optimization will put your web site in front of the customers you want to target.

Yes, you can. You just need to learn how. But the learning curve can be high. SEO is not easy, which is why most SEO companies charge a premium for their services. But there are some things you can do yourself. Read the book Timeless SEO Secrets for a few ideas of what you can do on your own.
Natural, or organic, SEO uses no artificial ingredients or sweeteners. It is grown in fields that do not have harsh chemicals or pesticides. Or, at least it sounds like it should, doesn't it?
Natural SEO is search engine optimization that is done on a web page versus creating ads (PPC SEO) or trying to get higher in the search engines by posting on social media. Natural SEO takes longer to get high in the search engines than PPC ads, but your web page could stay toward the top of results without having to pay costly Pay Per Click fees to keep it there. Our article, 29 SEO Tips has great advice on how to do some SEO yourself.

Pay Per Click (PPC) SEO really isn't search engine optimization. when you go to Google and search for something, the ads you see at the top were paid for by other people. Rather than do natural SEO, which can take time, they chose to pay per click. PPC is generally much more expensive than organic SEO.
Online marketing is more the strategy of getting people to know about you and your products/services. SEO is a part of online marketing, just like an engine is part of a car. Online marketing encompasses SEO, PPC advertising (above), and much more. Online marketing is also known as internet marketing or digital marketing.
That is a great question. If you have hired an SEO company, you should see initial results within 1-3 months. Search engine optimization is a long game. For instance, we tell our clients that we should start working on holiday SEO starting in July or August.
Getting onto page one is a different story, and it depends on many factors, such as:
- The specific keyword you want to rank for
- The competition for that keyword
- The size of your web site
We have gotten clients onto page 1 of Google within 3 weeks. That particular company had two competitors in the area where they were. We also had a specific keyword take 12 months before it got to page one. That company had about 40 competitors that were all jockeying for that position.
And that is just local keywords. National keywords can take even longer.
