Generic Banners

Read the “Not All Programs Work” section to see why you need to stay away from generic banners. Do research to determine complimentary products, and advertise those products.

Generic Text

The same as generic banners, except that people who come to your site might actually ignore a generic banner. They may become confused and frustrated at reading advertising text that has nothing to do with your Web site.

“If I Build It, They Will Come”

Spyware

Spyware is subtle, and it’s all over the Internet. Do you have that Weather banner on the bottom-right of your screen? That may be Spyware. Make sure you don’t work with a company that sends Spyware over your Web site, people will stop coming to it.

It’ll Grow On It’s Own

Related to “If I build it, they will come,” the days of building a Web site and instantly having 20,000 visitors per day are gone. Schedule an hour every month to sit down and find places where you can list your Web site. The more it gets listed, the more likely someone will find it.

Web Site Is Advertisement

I have seen this so much lately, and it is a very frustrating experience. Basically, it’s the Internet version of an Infomercial without the information. People are setting up Web sites that promise the world, if you buy the item or service. The problem is that no real information is given to the reader. Without some real information to work with, what’s the use of buying?

Web Site Is A Copy Of Someone Else’s Site

There are companies that you can join and get their “canned Web page.” And, many people use that page to make a site. In fact, the affiliate area is full of these types of pages. While researching for this E-book, I came across almost 50 Web sites with exactly the same information. How likely do you think someone will buy from you when 50 other people have exactly the same page? It would be a lot better to give some personal insight, or even some small extra thing, to show it’s different, wouldn’t it?
