Make Money While You Sleep
24/7/365. Wouldn’t it be nice to have your sales force working
that amount of time? No coffee breaks, no sick days, no vacations.
Now imagine that it isn’t your sales force. No payroll, no personality
conflicts. Next, imagine it isn’t even your inventory. No spillage,
no loss, no storefront with rent.
So you have a sales force at your beck and call willing to go out
there every day and night to sell products you don’t own, and
you get commissions for it. That’s my idea of the perfect business!
Affiliate programs on carefully created Web sites can do that for
you. Make money while you sleep, or while you are relaxing on the
beach in Hawaii. Make money while you shower, while you watch television,
and while you shop.
So how do you do that? I’m going to tell you.
It’s easier,
and harder, than you may think.

Get paid to tell people what you think
I spent 10 years being a computer network engineer, only to realize
that I did NOT like being a computer network engineer. Did you
know that fully half of the population in the world is more
artistic (right-brained) than calculating (left-brained), but we are
trained
to ignore our
artistic side and make our left-brain dominant? It’s not a conspiracy,
it’s just life. We all know that it’s easier to work for
someone else (get the two-week pay check) versus working for ourselves
(get paid IF I find customers, and IF they pay). That’s left-brained
thinking, and it’s helped us to survive for centuries.
But it’s energetic and enlightening to let our right-brain
come out for air sometimes! What’s it like to have an idea for
a new product or service? How do you feel when you see something,
and think of a better way to do it, or modify it? Keep that feeling
in mind.
I have several passions. I love discovering things about my local
community; I love finding artistic ways to work with computers; and
I love to work outdoors (when it’s warmer, of course!). What
are your passions? I know you have several, and there has to be one
thing you want to do more than the others. So why not tell other people
about it, and get paid in the process?

Write what you know
“I’m going to write {insert your book name here} book some day!” I
don’t know anyone who hasn’t wanted to write a book. I’ve always
wanted to (oh, that’s right, I am writing). So, why haven’t you?
A book is big, isn’t it? The average book is 300-500 pages, that’s
about 30,000 WORDS or MORE.
But you can create a web page, or an entire Web site, with as little
as 1,000 words. That’s nothing. And, you can get free graphics
to put onto the site. Or, keep it simpler and create a blog (see the
reference section for a definition). Both of these options are easy
ways to publish what you know.
But why?
The ultimate referral network
The true power of the Internet is the easy way to get information
in front of other people, and millions of people are already experiencing
that.
Let’s say you found a way to keep moss out of grass (a constant
problem here in the Northwest USA), and you want to share it with
others. We all like to be recognized for our successes, and publishing
your ideas is a great way for that. Teaching others to kill moss may
be your path to fortune
as well, through affiliations.
Don’t worry about any failures, THERE IS NO SUCH
THING! If you think you’ve had a failure in the past, realize
what it truly is; a stepping-stone to your ultimate success. Hard
lessons are sometimes the best way to learn.
It’s been said that there are NO new ideas (funny, that was
said BEFORE there were computers…), only new ways to change
old ideas. Yes, it’s a crock, but, there is a great possibility
that there are one or two (thousand) products, services, or ideas
that are close to yours already in existence. DON’T LET THIS
STOP YOU, THIS IS YOUR TICKET TO FORTUNE! Affiliations allow you to
refer people to other company’s products. When someone buys
the product (after being referred by you) many companies will send
you a check for the referral!
So write that page on how to kill moss better, and get it on the
Internet. Then find other companies that have similar items, or even
other information on lawn care, or even BOOKS about lawn care, and
offer them for sale from your site. You won’t actually sell
anything, just refer the people, and wait for the checks to come in.
Yes, it’s that simple, and it isn’t.

What are affiliate programs?
Affiliate programs are very close to commission salesmen for the
Internet. They are the loud, gaudy banners you ignore every
day. More than
that, they are the Spam messages you get in your email, they are
the book offerings
you see on Web sites (see Daffodil Valley Times, www.daffodilvalleytimes.com,
there is a book offering on almost every page), and they are the
bread-and-butter of thousands of small companies that are trying
to sell their items
on the Internet.
Statistics show that we actually look away from most
banner advertisements, which makes them totally ineffective.
The simplest, easiest (and possibly cheapest) way to advertise products
and services these days is to create an affiliate network. For instance:
Ty is writing ebooks about how to create Web sites that pay for
themselves and can possibly generate millions of dollars in cash.
He wants the world to know about these ebooks, but he has a certain
market he wants to focus on. He creates Internet Marketing Materials
(look for an ebook on this soon!) including some simple paragraphs and some image
banners about these wonderful products, and goes looking for Webmasters
to advertise his books on their Web sites (and/or Blogs). In return
for the advertising, Ty will give the Webmasters a percentage of the
profits from each sale coming through their site (there are ways to
track this). And, like magic, an affiliate program has begun!
It really is that simple to start an affiliate program, and there
are literally thousands of programs out there. No matter what your
Web site or Blog is about, there is an affiliate program that will
compliment it. For instance, go to this Web page:
http://www.daffodilvalleytimes.com/fun/webcams/mt_st_helens.html
This is a Web page with a web cam image of Mt. St. Helens. There
isn’t
much text on the page, and the highlight is a picture, so you
might not think to put affiliate banners here. But how many
affiliate programs
do you see? There are three; the top banner, Amazon.com and
Google AdSense (you will learn more about these later), and
all three
do very well. This just goes to show that the amount of content
is not
always the number 1 factor.
Blogs are just a simple Web site with
the code hidden so you don’t have to worry about learning
a computer programming language. Blogs were first used in the early eighties, on computer
bulletin board systems, but they went away when email was first
introduced. People by the millions are now publishing to the Internet
with the re-introduction
of Blogs.
